The Recording mode defines how your whole company's video calls are captured: whether the diio bot joins the meeting and records it, the Chrome plugin records from each person's browser, or a combination of both. Only the Admin can change it. You'll find it under Settings → General, in the "Recording mode" section, and changes apply immediately to every scheduled meeting, not just to future ones.
The four options
Individual preference (default). Each person picks their preferred recording method from the Chrome plugin settings, with the "Turn off the bot and record only with the Chrome plugin" switch. It's the most flexible option: anyone who'd rather not have a bot in their calls turns it on, and everyone else keeps the bot.
Prioritize plugin. Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings are recorded with the plugin, and the bot is reserved for Zoom. The bot stops joining Meet and Teams automatically.
Chrome plugin only. Meetings are recorded exclusively with the plugin, in Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. The bot doesn't join any video call and Zoom meetings aren't captured.
Native recording (diio). The bot joins every video call to record it, and recording via the plugin is disabled.
diio bot backup
Inside "Individual preference" there's an extra switch: diio bot backup. When it's on and a single meeting has people using the plugin and others who prefer the bot, the bot joins anyway so the recording isn't lost. Turn it on if losing a recording worries you more than having an extra participant in the call; turn it off if you'd rather the bot didn't show up when someone is already recording with the plugin.
How it affects unscheduled meetings
Meetings that aren't on the calendar — for example, a link a client sends over WhatsApp or email — can only be recorded with the Chrome plugin, because the bot depends on the calendar to know the meeting exists. That means that in Native recording (diio) mode, where the plugin is disabled, your team won't be able to record meetings that aren't scheduled. If that happens often in your operation, one of the other three modes is a better fit.
What to consider before changing it
Zoom only works with the bot. If your team uses Zoom, avoid "Chrome plugin only": those video calls won't be captured.
The plugin requires installation. The modes that rely on it assume everyone has the diio Chrome plugin installed and signed in. If someone doesn't, their meetings aren't recorded.
The change is immediate. It affects every already-scheduled meeting, not just future ones.
